Anemone (Early/mid) Fill your vases and light up your home. Soak in water overnight before planting (points down).

Bluebells (Mid/Late) Once established they'll have big clumps that produce dozens of strong flower stems that look terrific with no work. These are one of the best flowers for dry shade, a typically challenging situation. Give them a bit of water their first season to help them settle in and they'll take care of themselves after that. Plants do best if left undisturbed for years. When bulbs become too crowded, dig and replant in late summer. Especially handsome when planted in groups of a 10 or more.

Chionodoxa (Late) The bulbs can produce up to 10 blossoms. They like gritty soil containing humus. Leave in the ground after flowering as it readily reseeds.
| |||||||||||||
Ixia (Mid) Tall spikes produce dozens of starry graceful flowers. Ideal for cottage gardens, banks and wild areas.

Lily-of-the-valley They prefer a shady position or partial shade. Early morning sunlight is fine, but avoid areas that receive direct sunlight for more than a few hours. Lily-of-the-valley grows naturally beneath trees where it receives dappled sun throughout the day. Soak your pips (rhizomes) in lukewarm water before planting. Let the pips stand for several hours until the rhizomes swell and become hard. Plant rhizomes, in fine, rich soil, well worked to a depth of 35-40cm. Amend the soil with peat moss, compost or ground bark to ensure proper drainage. Plant about 10cm apart keeping the tips just below the surface and above all plant firmly. Fertiliser is better applied later on, hoeing it in just as growth appears. Code 528
