En masse, tulips give a spectacular display adding class to their surroundings. They also look wonderful popped in
here & there throughout a shrubbery. They work well in pots.
Soil should be light, deeply dug & rich in low nitrate compost.
Note:
Darwin hybrids perform well in warm climates.
Triumph hybrids are a showy group with strong stems & are also particularly suited for indoor forcing.

Most tulip varieties benefit from being lifted (especially in warmer climates) and stored in an airy dry place until the following autumn.
After flowering, WAIT UNIL ALL THE FOLIAGE HAS DIED OFF.
THEN, for up to 6 weeks prior to planting, you can chill the bulbs in the fridge in paper bags (never plastic).This provides close to a natural dormant climate and improves growth. Keep bulbs separate from vegetables as the ethylene gas produced by ripening fruit and vegetables can cause damage to the bulbs.
Traditionally it was always said that bulbs should be planted in the autumn, but tulips don't like to be planted too early, they need cold weather to root.
